LJC exists to encourage the development of chess at schools throughout the Lothians.

We do this in a number of ways:

  • By encouraging and assisting schools to offer opportunities for boys and girls to play chess, including advice from experienced leaders of school chess clubs and the loan of chess equipment to help new clubs to start.
  • By organising inter-school events for teams and for individual players to help children to develop their skills and to enlarge their chess experience.
  • To provide pathways for players with a particular aptitude to compete at national level and beyond.

We welcome your thoughts and comments.

In particular we would draw club organisers attention to the 'Clubs/Schools' section of the web site that lists some - but not all - the clubs that have taken part in the Lothian events. Here clubs can published details about their club, with the idea of helping to promote both chess itself and also the chess community.
